The Annecy Animation Festival is known for showcasing the best of international animation, and one upcoming series generating buzz is “Dragon Striker” from Disney EMEA and Chouette Studios. Co-creator and producer Sylvain Dos Santos revealed the heavy anime influence on the show, which was a passion project for the studio’s founders who were inspired by Japanese animation and comics.

“Dragon Striker,” set to have 22 20-minute episodes, is a unique take on soccer, incorporating magical abilities and intense combat elements. The series revolves around a national pastime where teams use mystical powers to outscore their opponents in elaborate stadiums. The main characters, Ssyelle and Key, are players at a prestigious school training young talents in the sport. Ssyelle, a goalkeeper, is already aware of her powers, while Key, a striker, discovers his hidden abilities throughout the series.

The animation style of “Dragon Striker” is reminiscent of action anime, with dynamic movements and visually stunning effects. The creative team, including co-creator Charles Lefebvre, drew inspiration from Japanese animation techniques and enlisted composer Kevin Penkin, known for his work on popular anime series, to score the show with an 80-person orchestra in Japan.

The development process for “Dragon Striker” underwent several iterations before settling on the final concept. The team initially explored a rugby-themed show set in an Arthurian world before transitioning to a soccer-focused narrative. The series blends elements from various anime and video game influences, creating a rich and visually captivating fictional setting called Kal Asterock.

The team behind “Dragon Striker” emphasized the importance of visual storytelling, integrating worldbuilding elements directly into the artwork. Writer Paul McKeown highlighted the complex character arcs and themes of brutality and desperation within the sport, pushing the boundaries of traditional children’s programming. The diverse cast of characters, with a mix of ancient and contemporary styles, adds depth and vibrancy to the world of “Dragon Striker.”

With enough material to potentially span multiple seasons, “Dragon Striker” promises to be a compelling and visually stunning addition to the world of animated series. The show’s fusion of anime influences and original storytelling sets it apart as a must-watch for animation enthusiasts of all ages.

Fans of the popular series Dragon Striker have taken their love for the show to a whole new level. The players themselves have shown immense enthusiasm for even the smallest details, going as far as creating their own fan art during their off time. Artists have been busy crafting embroidery, dolls, and stickers inspired by the characters and world of Dragon Striker.

One standout fan, concept artist Sun, has become known as the “first president of the official Dragon Striker fan club” for her impressive body of work. She has produced hundreds of pages of comics and art featuring the show’s side characters, showcasing her dedication and talent. With such a devoted fan base, it’s no wonder that there is already a wealth of fan art circulating online.

The co-creator of Dragon Striker even jokingly mentioned the possibility of the show running for 15 seasons, sparking excitement and speculation among fans. If the show were to reach such a milestone, one can only imagine the vast amount of fan art and creative projects that would come to life.

It’s clear that the world of Dragon Striker has captivated not only its audience but also inspired a community of talented artists and creators. With fans like these, the sky’s the limit for the future of the show and the creative projects it continues to inspire.
