A brand-new series titled “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars” is currently in development for Prime Video. The announcement was made by the creator of “Steven Universe,” Rebecca Sugar, during the Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe showcase at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The new series will follow the adventures of fan-favorite character Lars Barriga, who is described as an “eternal teenager and space outlaw.” Alongside his pirate crew, Lars will smuggle contraband, evade authorities, and uncover the darkest secrets of the fallen Gem Empire. Executive produced by Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey, creator of “OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes,” “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars” promises to delve deeper into the Steven Universe universe, exploring its past, present, and future.
The original “Steven Universe” series gained immense popularity during its run from 2013 to 2020, earning a Peabody Award for its storytelling, diversity, and emotional depth. The new chapter in the franchise aims to continue pushing boundaries and redefining modern animation.
In addition to the exciting news about “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars,” the showcase also featured updates on other popular Cartoon Network series. “Teen Titans Go!” has been renewed for a milestone tenth season, making it the longest-running animated series in DC history. The irreverent comedy follows the adventures of Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Raven as they navigate the challenges of crimefighting and teenage life.
