From the Arizona Republic:

In a dramatic shift along the U.S.-Mexico border, the landscape has transformed almost overnight. A year ago, Border Patrol agents were grappling with over 100,000 migrants and asylum seekers every month; now, that figure has plummeted to fewer than 10,000. It seems the tide of migration has ebbed, at least for the moment, and it has done so under the watch of President Trump, who is now four months into his second term.

In a recent investigation by the USA TODAY Network, reporters traversed 15 border sites from California to Texas, observing a consistent pattern: deserted shelters that once buzzed with activity and local officials breathing a sigh of relief from the absence of a migrant influx. The once frenetic environment has given way to an eerie calm.

Yet, as the border quiets, Trump insists it remains a crisis zone, all while celebrating what he claims to be a successful crackdown on migration. The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a spending bill that earmarks a staggering $150 billion for immigration enforcement, which includes significant funding for wall construction and deportation initiatives. This raises an interesting question: if the border is so secure now, why the continued push for such extensive funding?
