This isn’t merely a southern California issue, nor is it solely about immigration. What I aim to address here is Trump Derangement Syndrome.
This serious condition has afflicted millions of Americans; it’s no laughing matter. The reasons behind why Donald Trump evokes such extreme reactions remain somewhat elusive to me.
We observe manifestations of this syndrome in California and across the nation, particularly following Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard and potentially active-duty military forces to address the pressing realities on the ground. In fact, there are few police departments equipped to manage the scale of protests, especially when they escalate into violence. The necessary infrastructure simply isn’t there.
Thus, invoking the National Guard is a sensible course of action. Yet, the events unfolding in California epitomize Trump Derangement Syndrome. We’re witnessing it nationwide as well. For reasons that are hard to fathom, Trump has stirred deep-seated anxieties on the left regarding immigration—something that traces back to his 2015 campaign launch.
