The latest episode of Variety Awards Circuit presented by Paramount+ featured a discussion on the best comedy performances in contention for this year’s Emmys.
Lead actor contenders include Jeremy Allen White from FX’s “The Bear” and Martin Short from Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” While White’s momentum from last year may give him an edge, Short’s recent SAG win puts him firmly in the race. Other actors to watch out for in this category include Nathan Lane, Ted Danson, Jason Segel, Adam Brody, and Seth Rogen.
In the lead comedy actress category, Jean Smart, Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, Kristen Bell, and Tina Fey are among the top contenders. Supporting actresses like Kathryn Hahn, Natasha Lyonne, Bridget Everett, and Kate Hudson are also vying for recognition.
The supporting actress category sees standouts like Hannah Einbinder from “Hacks,” Catherine O’Hara from “The Studio,” Jessica Williams from “Shrinking,” and Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph from “Abbott Elementary.” Linda Lavin may receive a posthumous nomination for her role in “Mid-Century Modern.”
For supporting actors in a comedy, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ike Barinholtz, Colman Domingo, Will Forte, Harrison Ford, Paul W. Downs, and Tyler James Williams are all strong contenders. Bowen Yang from “Saturday Night Live” is also expected to make an impact.
As the Emmy race heats up, it will be interesting to see which performances ultimately stand out and earn nominations. Stay tuned for more updates on the comedy performance categories as the awards season progresses.
