In the previous season of “Shrinking,” Goldstein portrayed Louis, the character responsible for the tragic death of Tia, the wife of Jimmy (played by Jason Segel) and mother of Alice (portrayed by Lukita Maxwell). To embody the role of Louis, Goldstein had to shave his trademark dark beard. But in a recent visit to Variety‘s Awards Circuit podcast, his beard was back. This has sparked speculation about whether Goldstein will be returning on camera for the upcoming season of “Shrinking.”
When asked about the fate of Louis, Goldstein teasingly replied, “Does Louis grow a beard? Or has he gone? Who knows, exactly?”
While Goldstein couldn’t divulge much about the new season of “Shrinking,” he did reveal some exciting guest stars, including Michael J. Fox, Jeff Daniels, and Candice Bergen. He expressed his awe at being on set with legendary actors like Harrison Ford and Michael J. Fox, reminiscing about feeling like he had stepped back in time to the 80s.
Regarding “Ted Lasso,” Goldstein remained tight-lipped about any details but expressed his excitement at working on the show and having the cast back together. He also mentioned the relief of no longer having to field questions about whether the show would return, now that it’s in the works.
In addition to his television projects, Goldstein recently released an Emmy-contending standup special on HBO Max titled “Brett Goldstein: The Second Best Night of Your Life.” This marked the first time he had filmed his standup, as he had previously avoided putting his comedy online. Goldstein discussed the challenges of editing the special and ensuring that the humor translated from a live audience to a screen format.
Looking ahead, Goldstein shared that he already has plans for a follow-up to his standup special and is excited about the structure he has in mind for it. He reflected on the filming process of his special, revealing that he initially wanted to shoot in Minneapolis but had to settle for New Jersey due to weather constraints.
