In a recent interview with CNN, Emily Baden, the neighbor involved in a reported altercation with Martha-Ann Alito, wife of Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr., spoke out about the incident and denied instigating any conflicts.
Initially, Samuel Alito claimed that his wife had displayed an upside-down U.S. flag outside their Virginia home following a verbal dispute with Emily. However, Emily clarified that the confrontation took place a month after the flag was first displayed on January 17, 2021.
During the February argument, Martha-Ann allegedly called Emily and her husband fascists, according to Emily’s account. Phone records obtained by CNN supported Emily’s version of events, as her then-boyfriend, now husband, called the police on February 15, 2021, to report Martha-Ann’s alleged harassment.
The display of the upside-down flag, traditionally a symbol of distress, has recently been associated with the pro-Trump “Stop the Steal” movement. This controversy led to the release of leaked recordings featuring Samuel and Martha-Ann discussing the flag dispute and abortion.
Liberal activist and documentary filmmaker Lauren Windsor shared the audio on social media, where Martha-Ann referred to her critics as “feminazis” and threatened legal action. In the recording, Martha-Ann can be heard saying, “There’s a five-year defamation statute of limitation. Don’t get angry. Get even.”
The leaked recordings have sparked further controversy surrounding the Alito family and raised questions about their views and interactions with their neighbors. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how this latest development will impact Justice Alito’s reputation and the public’s perception of the Supreme Court Justice’s personal life.
