A man with the tattoo “SLIME” on his throat, identified as Jaylin Arnold, has been charged with possessing a firearm in the vicinity where Chicago Police Officer Krystal Rivera was fatally shot by her partner on June 5. Arnold, 27, was on parole for his third adult gun case when he was arrested for a parole violation and found with narcotics in his possession.

Chicago Police Department’s Investigative Response Team discovered that Arnold was armed with a firearm during the encounter with Officer Rivera and other officers in the 8200 block of South Drexel. Arnold’s involvement in the incident will be further discussed during his detention hearing, where prosecutors are expected to present more details.

A separate individual, Adrian Rucker, was also implicated in the incident. Prosecutors allege that Rivera and her colleagues pursued Arnold into an apartment, where Rucker was seen pointing a firearm at them from behind a couch. Rivera’s partner fired a shot that tragically struck her in the upper back, leading to her untimely death.

Arnold, who had been released on parole in October after serving half of a seven-year sentence for a firearm possession conviction, now faces charges including armed violence, possession of a firearm by a repeat felon, and drug-related offenses.

Officer Krystal Rivera’s funeral arrangements have been made, with visitation scheduled for June 24 at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home and a funeral service on June 25 at Living Word Christian Center.
