Jessica Madsen has landed a role in Prime Video’s upcoming Viking drama series “Bloodaxe” as Gunnhild, the wife of Viking raider Erik Bloodaxe. Known as the Mother of Kings, Gunnhild’s character is set to play a pivotal role in the series. Xavier Molyneux will portray the character of Eric Bloodaxe in the historical drama produced by MGM Television.

Madsen, who gained recognition for her portrayal of Cressida Cowper in Netflix’s hit series “Bridgerton,” will bring her talent to the new Viking saga. In “Bridgerton,” Madsen’s character is depicted as an antagonist who spreads gossip among debutantes. The versatile actor has also appeared in films such as “Leatherface,” “Rambo: Last Blood,” and “Dark Light.”

The series, created by Michael Hirst and his son Horatio Hirst, follows the power struggle of Erik Bloodaxe and Gunnhild as they vie for the throne of Norway. Filled with fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals, the storyline promises to be a captivating and magical Norse saga. With war looming and chaos engulfing the kingdom, the stage is set for a thrilling and cataclysmic narrative.

Michael Hirst, known for creating the popular series “Vikings” and its sequel “Vikings: Valhalla,” serves as a showrunner, writer, and executive producer for “Bloodaxe.” Horatio Hirst, who has acted in “Vikings: Valhalla” and “Billy the Kid,” makes his writing debut with this new series. The show boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers including Morgan O’Sullivan, Steve Stark, John Weber, Arturo Interian, Sheila Hockin, and Fred Toye.

Filming for “Bloodaxe” is scheduled to take place in Ireland and Iceland during the summer, promising stunning landscapes and authentic settings for the Viking epic. Fans of historical dramas and Viking lore can look forward to a gripping and visually spectacular series that delves into the ruthless world of Norse politics and warfare. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new Prime Video production.
