Morgan Bartrum, a landscaper and ultra runner, is dedicated to raising awareness for men’s mental health. At just 26 years old, he is preparing to run 617km around Hagley Park in September, symbolizing one kilometer for every New Zealander who lost their life to suicide last year.

Bartrum’s intense training regimen includes running 100km a day for six days, followed by 17km on the seventh day. He is fundraising for I Am Hope, a charity that provides support for mental health and suicide prevention in New Zealand.

His main goal is to spark conversations and break the stigma surrounding mental health. Bartrum believes in the power of checking in on friends and supporting each other through tough times.

Inspired by Australian ultra-marathon runner Nedd Brockman, Bartrum is determined to make a difference and show that resilience and vulnerability can coexist. Running has been his outlet for coping with challenges and celebrating victories.

Bartrum’s mental health mantra is to disconnect from technology and spend time outdoors. He emphasizes the importance of taking things one step at a time, both in running and in life.

As he embarks on his grueling seven-day run around Hagley Park, Bartrum acknowledges the mental challenges he will face. Despite feeling a mix of excitement and fear, he is motivated to make a positive impact.
