Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman’s production company, Brownstone Productions, has recently signed a first-look deal with Universal Television (UTV), as reported exclusively by Variety. This move comes after the company’s previous overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.

Under the new agreement, Brownstone will collaborate with UTV to develop and produce television series for various platforms. Additionally, the company has announced the promotion of Anna Hughes to vice president and Kristen Spence to creative executive.

In a statement, Elizabeth Banks expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating, “Brownstone Productions first emerged from the primordial swamps of Universal Pictures, so it’s only natural that our next evolutionary leap happens with Universal Television. We’re thrilled to continue growing with such a stellar team and deeply grateful to Donna, Pearlena, and Erin for their support.”

Currently, Brownstone has two projects in development with UTV for Peacock. The first project is a comedy titled “Pitch Perfect: K-Pop Idols,” created by Joel Kim Booster. The show follows a struggling singer-songwriter whose life takes a dramatic turn when she auditions to be part of the first all-American K-pop group.

This series is an extension of the popular “Pitch Perfect” film franchise, in which Banks and Handelman have been heavily involved. The second project in development is the series “Crush,” inspired by a 1995 episode of “The Jenny Jones Show.” The show is set in the world of tabloid talk shows, exploring themes of ambition, heartbreak, and murder.

Both “Pitch Perfect: K-Pop Idols” and “Crush” have impressive executive producer teams, including Banks, Handelman, and other industry veterans. The collaboration between Brownstone and UTV promises to bring fresh and compelling storytelling to audiences.

Erin Underhill, president of UTV, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, praising Elizabeth Banks as a creative force both in front of and behind the camera. She highlighted the long-standing relationship between Brownstone and NBCUniversal, emphasizing their shared commitment to entertaining fans worldwide.

With a successful track record that includes the “Pitch Perfect” franchise and the upcoming Peacock series “The Miniature Wife,” Elizabeth Banks and Brownstone Productions continue to solidify their presence in the entertainment industry. Their new deal with Universal Television sets the stage for even more innovative and engaging content to come.

For all their endeavors, Banks and Brownstone Productions are represented by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. The future looks bright for this dynamic team as they embark on this exciting new chapter with Universal Television.
