Fungi play a crucial role in our environment, serving as the foundation upon which the essential building blocks of our ecosystem thrive. These remarkable organisms have the remarkable ability to capture up to a third of annual human CO2 emissions when they are healthy and thriving. However, the practices we employ in agriculture and gardening can inadvertently harm the fungi that are vital for maintaining healthy soil.

It is important to be mindful of the products we use in our yards and gardens, as certain herbicides and pesticides can have a detrimental impact on soil fungi. Glyphosate compounds, found in popular products like Roundup, Ortho GroundClear, and Ranger Pro, can disrupt the delicate balance of soil fungi and hinder their ability to draw down atmospheric CO2. By avoiding these harmful chemicals, we can help preserve the crucial role that fungi play in the carbon cycle that sustains our environment.

One way to spread awareness and inspire others to take action is by sharing We Earthling posters that highlight the importance of preserving soil fungi. These posters serve as a powerful visual reminder of the critical role that fungi play in maintaining a healthy and thriving ecosystem. By educating ourselves and others about the importance of fungi and the impact of harmful chemicals, we can work together to protect these essential organisms and ensure a sustainable future for our planet.
