Chicago Police Investigate Two Armed Carjackings in West Loop and West Rogers Park
Chicago police are currently investigating two separate armed carjacking incidents that took place within hours of each other on Wednesday evening and overnight. One incident occurred in the West Loop area, while the other took place in West Rogers Park.
West Rogers Park Carjacking
During the first incident, a 50-year-old man was carjacked at gunpoint by two individuals in the 2100 block of West Arthur around 7:39 p.m. The victim was approached by two men while near his 2017 Hyundai Accent. One of the suspects displayed a firearm, and they forcefully took control of the victim’s vehicle. Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not provided.
West Loop Carjacking
Later, around 12:20 a.m., a second carjacking occurred near Halsted and Hubbard streets in the West Loop. The victim encountered two masked individuals inside his vehicle at the intersection of Halsted and Hubbard streets. Both suspects brandished rifles, took control of the car, and drove away. The stolen vehicle was later found unoccupied in the 2600 block of West Monroe.
The suspects in the West Loop carjacking were described as Black males, approximately 5’8” to 6 feet tall, wearing ski masks. One suspect wore a black t-shirt, faded black jeans, and white shoes, while the other was dressed in all black clothing.
Previous Incident in West Loop
The West Loop carjacking incident occurred just three blocks away from a recent event where a concealed carry holder intervened in a street robbery by opening fire on two armed individuals. The concealed carry holder witnessed a 38-year-old woman being pistol-whipped and robbed by two armed men. He confronted the robbers, who then pointed their guns at him, leading the witness to draw his weapon and fire at the suspects. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The offenders fled the scene in a black Lexus sedan with stolen New Jersey license plates. The victim declined medical assistance following the incident.
