‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Actor Dead at 79

Richard Hurst — best known as Deputy Cletus Hogg on “The Dukes of Hazzard” — has passed away. His first wife, Candace Kaniecki, confirmed the news, stating that Rick died unexpectedly in Los Angeles. The exact cause of his death is currently unknown.
Rick was supposed to make an appearance at Cooter’s Place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on July 3rd, but the event was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Rick Hurst portrayed Boss Hogg’s cousin on “The Dukes of Hazzard,” a role that made him a familiar face on television screens in the late ’70s and throughout the 80s.
Throughout his career, Rick appeared in various TV shows like “Sanford and Son,” “The Partridge Family,” “MASH,” “Gunsmoke,” and “The Bob Newhart Show.” He also had roles in movies such as “The Cat from Outer Space” and “History of the World: Part I.”
His son, actor Ryan Hurst, is also well-known for his performances in “Sons of Anarchy” and “Remember the Titans.”
Richard Hurst was 79 years old at the time of his passing.
