Google to Launch YouTube Create App for iOS Devices

After nearly two years of being available exclusively on Android devices, Google is gearing up to introduce the YouTube Create app to iOS users. The tech giant is actively recruiting software engineers in Bengaluru, India, to work on developing the iOS version of the popular video editing app. The move comes as Google aims to expand the reach of YouTube Create and tap into the iOS market.

The original Android version of the YouTube Create app was launched in the U.S. and seven other markets in September 2023, with further expansion to 13 additional markets by February 2024. The app offers free mobile video editing tools tailored for content creators, with features like stickers, GIFs, and effects for both short-form YouTube Shorts and longer videos. Google consulted with 3,000 creators during the app’s development to ensure it met their needs and expectations.

Despite its potential, YouTube Create faces stiff competition from established players like ByteDance’s CapCut and InShot. Exclusive data from Sensor Tower revealed that YouTube Create lags significantly behind its competitors in terms of downloads and user engagement. While CapCut and InShot have garnered millions of downloads and monthly active users on Android devices, YouTube Create has struggled to gain traction in the market.

On the iOS front, CapCut leads the pack with a large user base, followed by InShot. YouTube Create aims to carve out a niche for itself on iOS devices, with a focus on attracting and retaining users through its innovative features and user-friendly interface.

Despite facing challenges in the competitive landscape, YouTube Create has shown signs of growth, with a notable increase in monthly active users year-over-year. The app’s user base is diversifying geographically, with India, Indonesia, Germany, Brazil, and the UK emerging as key markets for YouTube Create.

With the upcoming launch of the iOS version, Google is optimistic about the app’s potential to attract a wider audience and compete more effectively in the video editing space. While the road ahead may be challenging, YouTube Create is poised to make its mark on the iOS platform and offer users a unique and engaging video editing experience.
