During a recent episode of the “Good One” podcast, “Saturday Night Live” cast member Sarah Sherman shared a surprising revelation. She received several residual checks from the show that were mistakenly sent to the estate of the late “SNL” icon Gilda Radner, the first performer hired when the show began in 1975, as reported by The New York Times.

Sherman was deeply moved by the situation. She recalled receiving a “giant envelope” in the mail along with a handwritten letter from Radner’s brother, praising her performance on “SNL” and explaining the unusual occurrence.

Feeling a sense of spiritual connection, Sherman reached out to “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels about the incident. Michaels simply responded, “That’s sweet,” acknowledging the unique turn of events.

Gilda Radner, an Emmy Award-winning comedian, was a beloved member of the original “SNL” cast known as the “Not Ready for Prime Time Players.” After her time on the show, she starred in films alongside Gene Wilder, whom she later married in 1984.

Despite her passing from ovarian cancer in 1989, Radner’s legacy continues to be celebrated by her former colleagues. In a touching tribute, fellow “SNL” cast members Laraine Newman and Jane Curtin held up a framed photo of the comedian during the show’s 50th anniversary special.

Reflecting on her favorite “SNL” cast members, Sherman mentioned Radner as one of her all-time favorites, alongside Fred Armisen, Norm Macdonald, Kristen Wiig, and Dana Carvey.
