Kyle MacLachlan recently revealed his reasons for declining the opportunity to reprise his role as Trey MacDougal on the iconic show “Sex and the City.” While attending a God’s Love We Deliver meal prep event in New York City, the 66-year-old actor shared with Us Weekly that he felt there should be more substance to his character’s return.
Although MacLachlan did not delve into the specifics of what the “Sex and the City” spinoff “And Just Like That” had in mind for Trey, he did offer some insight into where he imagines his character would be today. He suggested that Trey might have moved to Napa Valley and established a successful winery and label, hinting at a new direction for the character. Despite not making a return to the show, MacLachlan expressed his admiration for the cast and the success of the series.
“Sex and the City,” which originally premiered in 1998, followed the lives and relationships of four friends living in New York City. After six seasons, the show concluded in 2004. Two subsequent films were released before the recent spinoff, “And Just Like That,” which premiered in December 2021. While three of the four main characters returned for the spinoff, Kim Cattrall did not reprise her role as Samantha Jones due to ongoing conflicts with Sarah Jessica Parker.
In the latest episode of “And Just Like That,” Samantha’s absence was explained by her character now residing in Paris. Despite Trey MacDougal not returning to the screen, MacLachlan shared details about his upcoming podcast, “What Are We Even Doing?” set to debut in September. The podcast will feature interviews with young creatives, exploring their creative processes and use of social media from the perspective of an older individual.
As MacLachlan embarks on new projects, fans of the actor and the “Sex and the City” franchise can only speculate on what could have been for Trey MacDougal. Nevertheless, with his podcast on the horizon, it seems that MacLachlan remains engaged in the creative world, embracing new opportunities for storytelling and exploration.
