The recent tragic incident on the Blue Line train near Rosemont has left the community in shock. Lawrence Strother, a 66-year-old man, reportedly fatally stabbed another passenger, 42-year-old Jason Rowinski, during an argument on the train. The altercation took place between O’Hare and Rosemont stations on Wednesday, June 25, around 7:45 p.m.

According to a witness on the train, Strother and Rowinski got into a heated argument, which escalated when Strother pulled out a knife and stabbed Rowinski in the left knee. The injury proved to be fatal, and Rowinski was pronounced dead at Lutheran General Hospital less than 30 minutes later.

After the stabbing, Strother attempted to flee by jumping onto a shopping mall shuttle bus. However, Rosemont police officers were quick to respond and track him down. Strother was taken into custody at the Rosemont police station, where he confessed to the crime on a body camera recording.

Currently, Strother is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing today to determine the next steps in the legal proceedings. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are working to gather more information about the motive behind the stabbing.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of public safety and the need for vigilance when traveling on public transportation. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Jason Rowinski during this difficult time.
