Jim Hill, a former NFL player turned sportscaster, has been a prominent figure in the Los Angeles sports scene for over six decades. His contributions to sports broadcasting have not gone unnoticed, as he is set to receive the Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award later this month.

Hill began his career at KNXT-TV (now KCBS-TV Los Angeles) in 1976 and has since become one of the nation’s most respected sports anchors. Known for his straight-shooting reporting and Texas-inflected flair, Hill moved to ABC-owned KABC-TV in 1987 before returning to KCBS in 1992.

“Jim is a legendary and beloved figure in sports broadcasting – a trusted voice and a true pioneer in the Los Angeles area news,” said Abrego. “His dedication, excellence, and influence have made a lasting impact on the industry, and we are proud to celebrate his extraordinary contributions to our Southland television community.”

The Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on July 26 at the Skirball Cultural Center, with Spectrum News 1 anchor Kelvin Washington hosting the event. Hill currently serves as the sports anchor for the 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. weekday newscasts on CBS2 (KCBS) and hosts the weekend edition of the station’s “Sports Central” program. Throughout his career, he has covered major events such as the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics, as well as hosted pay-per-view boxing on Showtime.

In addition to his broadcasting career, Hill is an active philanthropist and civic leader in Los Angeles. He has been involved with various organizations, including serving as chair of Los Angeles County’s “Just Say No” antidrug program, president of the nonprofit Athletes for Kids, and chair of the Watts Summer Games. Hill has also been recognized for his achievements, receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006 and being inducted into the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2010. He has received career achievement honors from organizations such as the Associated Press, Los Angeles Press Club, United Press International, and USA Today.
