Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers delivered a scathing critique of Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” on Sunday, raising important questions about the impact of the legislation.

Summers expressed his disappointment on ABC News’ “This Week,” stating that he has never felt more embarrassed for his country than on July Fourth, when Trump signed the controversial spending and taxation bill into law.

Highlighting the negative consequences of the bill, the former Clinton-era Cabinet member pointed out the potential drawbacks for Americans, including higher interest rates, reduced subsidies for electricity, limited housing availability, increased healthcare costs for hospitals, and the possibility of inflation and recession.

Summers questioned the rationale behind the bill, emphasizing that it primarily benefits the wealthiest individuals in the country, while neglecting the needs of the middle class.

He further criticized Congress and the president for prioritizing the interests of the top tenth of a percent over the well-being of the majority of Americans, describing their actions as a “shameful act” that will set the country back.
