Netflix has officially announced the release date of its highly anticipated show “The Monster of Florence” on October 22nd. The streaming platform has also unveiled a new teaser/trailer for the series, which is directed by Italian filmmaker Stefano Sollima.

“The Monster of Florence” is a four-episode limited series that delves into a series of sex-related murders that occurred outside Florence from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s. Shot predominantly on location, the show reunites Sollima with writer Leonardo Fasoli and cinematographer Paolo Carnera, both of whom he collaborated with on the acclaimed series “Gomorrah” and the crime drama “ZeroZeroZero.”

Sollima, known for his work on projects like “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” and “Without Remorse,” spent over a year researching the infamous case of “The Monster,” an unidentified serial killer who committed eight double murders targeting couples parked in cars in secluded areas around Florence. The killer, known as “The Monster,” always used a 22 caliber Beretta as his weapon of choice.

The cold case of “The Monster of Florence” remains one of the longest and most brutal serial killings in Italian history. Sollima’s dedication to bringing this chilling story to life has already garnered attention, with the director previously showcasing his crime feature “Adagio” at the Venice Film Festival in 2023.

In addition to the release date and teaser trailer, Netflix has also revealed the show’s Italian cast, including Marco Bullitta, Valentino Mannias, Francesca Olia, and others. “The Monster of Florence” was created by Fasoli and Sollima and produced by Fremantle-owned The Apartment and Sollima’s AlterEgo production company, with Lorenzo Mieli, Sollima, and Gina Gardini serving as producers.
