Suma Content, the production company behind hits like “La Mesías” and “Vestidas de Azul,” has joined forces with Spanish platform Atresplayer to bring viewers a brand new fictional musical comedy series called “Mariliendre.” Created by Javier Ferreiro, the show was recently unveiled at FesTVal Vitoria and promises to be a unique and entertaining addition to the world of Spanish television.
Set in Chueca, a vibrant and gay neighborhood in Madrid, “Mariliendre” follows the story of Meri Román, a former queen of the city’s gay nightlife who is now facing a midlife crisis. After the death of her father, Meri reconnects with her old group of gay friends, sparking memories of her past glory days and the music that defined that chapter of her life. Through this journey of self-discovery, Meri navigates themes of identity, body image, mental health, motherhood, and chosen families.
The series will feature a feminist perspective and will be filled with Spanish pop music classics from the 2000s, adding an extra layer of nostalgia and energy to the storyline. According to Ferreiro, “Mariliendre” is a tribute to the important role that female friends play in the lives of gay men, celebrating the bond and support that exists between them.
The show boasts a talented cast, with Blanca Martínez Rodrigo taking on the lead role of Meri, alongside a dynamic ensemble of actors including Martin Urrutia, Omar Ayuso, Carlos González, and more. Behind the scenes, the series is in good hands with directors of photography Lali Rubio and Andreu Adam, art director Marta Loza, and other skilled professionals bringing the story to life.
Commissioned by Atresplayer, “Mariliendre” is a production of Suma Content, with Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi serving as producers. The series is a departure from traditional Spanish television, embracing the musical genre in a fresh and innovative way. With a talented team and a compelling storyline, “Mariliendre” is set to captivate audiences and make a mark in the world of Spanish entertainment.
