Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Review: Hands-On Impressions

Samsung has just unveiled its latest foldable device, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it seems to address many of the issues that users had with its predecessor. The Z Fold 6 was a solid device but had some drawbacks like a narrow outer screen, thickness, and outdated cameras.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Z Fold 7 is its slim and lightweight design. It measures just 8.9mm thick when folded and 4.2mm unfolded, making it one of the slimmest foldable phones on the market. Despite its low weight of 215g, Samsung has managed to increase the size of the cover screen, giving it a more traditional 21:9 aspect ratio. The interior screen is now 8 inches, 11% larger than the Z Fold 6’s folding screen.

In terms of durability, the Z Fold 7 features a new titanium lattice under the display, a waterdrop-style hinge, improved coating, and a shallower crease. The crease is much less noticeable than before, although the new design does not support the S Pen due to its thinness.

The Z Fold 7 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, offering impressive performance. The camera setup includes a 200MP main sensor, upgraded ultrawide lens with macro capabilities, and a ditching of the under-display selfie camera for a punch-hole design. The device also includes AI enhancements for photos and audio, as well as new software features optimized for the larger screen.

Unfortunately, the Z Fold 7 retains the same battery capacity and charging speeds as its predecessor, which may disappoint some users. The pricing remains the same as the Z Fold 6, with options for 12GB + 256GB, 12GB + 512GB, and 16GB + 1TB models. The device comes in Jet Black, Silver Shadow, and Blue Shadow color options, with a Mint version available exclusively on Samsung.com.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 seems to be a significant improvement over its predecessor, addressing many of the previous issues while offering impressive performance and features. It is available for pre-order now and will be released on 25 July.
