Ronny Chieng, the comedian and host/correspondent of “The Daily Show,” has officially joined the cast of Hulu’s highly anticipated “King of the Hill” revival. Chieng will be taking over the role of Kahn Souphanousinphone, a fan-favorite character from the original series.
In the upcoming Season 14 of “King of the Hill,” set to premiere on August 4th with ten episodes, Chieng will be portraying Kahn, a Laotian neighbor of the main character, Hank Hill. Kahn is known for his arrogant demeanor and competitive nature, often clashing with Hank as he tries to excel in every aspect of life. He is married to Minh and is the father of Connie, portrayed by returning voice actress Lauren Tom.
Chieng’s involvement in the show was inadvertently revealed during a podcast recording with Ari Shaffir in December. Despite this slip, the news has only recently been confirmed. Chieng’s impressive resume includes his work on “The Daily Show,” as well as standout performances in films such as “Crazy Rich Asians,” “M3GAN,” and “Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” He has also appeared in various TV shows like “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.,” “American Born Chinese,” and “Young Rock.”
The rest of the cast for the revival includes familiar voices such as Mike Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Stephen Root, Lauren Tom, and Toby Huss, who will now be voicing Dale Gribble. The series is being produced by 20th TV Animation, with original co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels at the helm, alongside new executive producer and showrunner Saladin Patterson.
The upcoming season will see Hank and Peggy Hill returning to a changed Arlen, Texas, after working in Saudi Arabia to secure their retirement. Meanwhile, their son Bobby is pursuing his dream as a chef in Dallas, reconnecting with old friends and classmates in the process.
To give fans a taste of what’s to come, Hulu has released a trailer for the new season, as well as key art featuring the beloved characters. With Chieng on board as Kahn, the revival of “King of the Hill” promises to bring back the humor and charm that made the original series a classic.
