Producer Jeremy Bolt, known for his work on the “Resident Evil” franchise and “Death Race,” was inspired by an article about the prehistoric snake Titanoboa, the largest snake ever known to have existed, living some 60 million years ago. This sparked the idea for a new film project.

Collaborating with writers Tony Giglio, Alan B. McElroy, and director Mike P. Nelson, Bolt and Constantin Film’s Bernhard Thür embarked on a journey to Colombia. The country’s competitive tax incentives and reputation as a filming destination drew them to explore the Amazon and jungle areas with the help of production service company Jaguar Bite. They conducted interviews with key department heads to ensure a smooth production process.

Trust was crucial for the team, and after the recce and interviews, they were confident in the capabilities of the Colombian crew. A conversation with Juan Pablo Solano, one of Jaguar Bite’s founders, further solidified their decision to film in the Amazon with the company’s support.

The film, titled “Titan,” stars Kiana Madeira, Jessica Rothe, and Logan Marshall-Green, and is set in present-day Brazil along the Curuçá River. The story follows a team of young doctors on a humanitarian mission in the Amazon, where they encounter the ancient predator Boiúna, leading to a brutal fight for survival.

With a predominantly Colombian cast and crew, the production began in Leticia, the gateway to Colombia’s Amazon, and wrapped in Girardot. Despite challenges like navigating the jungle terrain and dealing with dangerous wildlife, the team found the experience rewarding.

Bolt praised the Colombian crew for their hard work and camaraderie on set, highlighting the expertise of a skilled snake wrangler and the dedication of the team in challenging conditions. Thür echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the positive atmosphere despite the tough shooting conditions.

“Titan” is produced by Bolt, Robert Kulzer, and others, with Lionsgate acquiring domestic rights. The film promises to be an exciting adventure that showcases the beauty and danger of the Amazon, with a talented team bringing the story to life on screen.
