A shocking incident took place on Sunday afternoon at Stone Scholastic Academy in West Rogers Park, where a 17-year-old boy was critically injured in a daylight robbery. The teen was on the school’s soccer field when a man on an electric scooter approached him, brandished a gun, and demanded his belongings.
After taking the boy’s phone and backpack, the assailant callously opened fire, hitting the teen in the forearm. The bullet then passed through his arm, entered his chest, and exited out the other side, leaving him in critical condition. The suspect, described as a Hispanic male around 5-foot-6 and thin, wearing all-black clothing and dark sunglasses, fled the scene on the scooter.
Authorities suspect that this robbery may be part of a larger pattern in the area involving a scooter-riding gunman. Just days before this incident, a similar robbery took place near Damen and Fargo, where a man on a black scooter robbed another individual. The gunman in that case was also dressed in all black, wearing a ski mask and a durag. Unfortunately, the victim had left the scene by the time officers arrived, and it remains unclear if a report was ever filed.
In response to these alarming events, Alderman Andre Vasquez (40th) has urged residents to come forward with any information they may have regarding the Stone Scholastic shooting. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with Area Three detectives in solving this case and preventing future incidents.
