House Republicans are not finished with their agenda to slash Medicaid, and they’ve set their sights on a new target.

By year’s end, House Republicans are also gearing up to implement cuts to Medicare.

According to Bloomberg:

House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington recently told Bloomberg that Republicans plan to pursue steeper reductions in Medicaid, introduce cuts to Medicare spending, and address inaccuracies in the US tax code stemming from the “Big, Beautiful Bill.”

“I think we will execute one before the end of the year,” Arrington stated. “It’s going to be a more focused set of reforms.”

The budget chairman views this follow-up legislation as an opportunity to secure the Medicare cuts he previously sought but could not achieve in the Trump tax and spending package. One of his primary objectives is to decrease hospital reimbursements through a site-neutral payment system, ensuring that the same rate applies whether a procedure occurs in a clinic or an office.

When Arrington mentions ‘reforms,’ he is talking about cuts to healthcare. Slashing Medicare reimbursements could spell disaster for many rural hospitals.

If you thought the last reconciliation bill that Republicans passed and Trump signed was the end of the line, think again.

It seems that taking healthcare away from 17 million Americans wasn’t quite enough; now Republicans are targeting the remaining Medicaid recipients and setting their sights on Medicare as well.

These cuts could jeopardize Republicans’ hold on the House, but these ideologues appear determined to dismantle the social safety net, seemingly intent on redistributing all national wealth to the top 1%.
