University of Colorado Springs Accused of Mishandling Student’s Behavior Before Double Homicide

A lawsuit filed by the mother of one of the victims alleges that officials at the University of Colorado’s Colorado Springs campus failed to address a student’s problematic behavior, leading to a tragic incident in 2024 where two people were shot and killed in a dorm room.

Nicholas Jordan, the 26-year-old man responsible for the deaths of his roommate Samuel Knopp, 24, and visitor Celie Montgomery, 26, reportedly exhibited concerning behavior that went unaddressed by the school despite multiple complaints.

The lawsuit details a timeline of events starting in December 2023, including allegations of sexual harassment, drug use, and threats made by Jordan towards his roommates. Despite requests to move out and incidents reported to campus police, no action was taken to remove Jordan from the campus.

The Campus Assessment Response and Evaluation Team, tasked with handling student behavior concerns, allegedly discussed Jordan’s conduct but failed to take appropriate measures to ensure campus safety.

As a result of the tragic incident, Melody Montgomery, the mother of Celie Montgomery who now cares for her grandchildren, is seeking monetary compensation through the lawsuit.

Christopher Valentine, a spokesman for CU Colorado Springs, has not yet commented on the allegations.
