The Wall Street Journal, a bastion of conservative thought, is not a publication you’d mistake for liberal leanings. Hence, the recent news that it was gearing up to release a significant exposĂ© on Donald Trump’s associations with the notorious Jeffrey Epstein has sent the former president into a tailspin of anxiety.

The Status newsletter reported:

The article, which has reportedly been under development for several days, still hadn’t been published as of Thursday afternoon—raising eyebrows and igniting speculation in political circles from Washington to New York.

Insiders suggest that The Journal is encountering pressure from the White House regarding the story. Allegedly, Trump himself has reached out to Emma Tucker, the editor-in-chief of The Journal, to express his discontent, although the details of that conversation remain ambiguous. It’s hard to envision Trump expressing anything other than indignation. Whether he also contacted Rupert Murdoch, whose News Corporation owns The Journal, is still a mystery.

While the precise contents of The Journal’s forthcoming report are not yet public, it is rumored to include new insights into the Trump-Epstein connection.

If this were the domain of CNN, The Washington Post, or The New York Times, the White House might not be so frantic to suppress it. They would likely dismiss the report as “fake news,” banking on the fact that those media outlets have long been regarded as unreliable in the eyes of Trump’s supporters.

The Wall Street Journal, however, occupies a different space in the media landscape. A scoop from The Journal carries weight and credibility that can resonate across the political spectrum.

If Trump were truly innocent regarding the allegations, he could have preemptively neutralized the situation during his first term by releasing all pertinent information. The Epstein conspiracy theories gained traction largely due to the opaque nature of the Trump administration’s actions following Epstein’s death in custody.

After losing the 2020 election, Trump leaned into these conspiracy theories, attempting to exploit them for political advantage.

What the current administration is grappling with is a predicament of Trump’s own making. He responded to the expectations of his supporters—who anticipated a full disclosure on Epstein—by attempting to silence inquiries.

This story is unlikely to evaporate, and with outlets like The Wall Street Journal investigating, it stands to become much more problematic for him.

It’s not the 34 felony fraud charges or even the E. Jean Carroll lawsuit that have inflicted the most harm on Trump. Two impeachment trials and accusations of colluding with foreign adversaries bounced off him like rubber balls.

Instead, it is Jeffrey Epstein that seems to be sticking to Donald John Trump.

As Trump’s second term drags on, few would have predicted that by summer 2025, his most significant challenge would revolve around Jeffrey Epstein.

Even if Trump manages to suppress the WSJ story, more revelations are sure to follow.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt faced a barrage of Epstein-related questions during Thursday’s briefing.

If even the most compliant members of the corporate press are pressing the Trump administration on this issue, it suggests that a reckoning may be imminent, with potentially larger troubles on the horizon.
