Despite persistent assertions from the left that Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City, is not a communist, his public statements suggest otherwise. A recent clip has surfaced, showcasing his outspoken support for the abolition of private property, which has ignited a firestorm of debate.
In this podcast appearance, Mamdani frames his radical idea as a compassionate response to the housing crisis, claiming that his willingness to eliminate private property stems from a deep concern for those without homes. His argument appears to hinge on a moral high ground, as if to say that the ends justify the means—taking homes from some to provide for others is just an act of caring, after all.
FOX News reported:
Zohran Mamdani’s previous remarks are resurfacing and creating controversy in his campaign for New York City mayor, particularly a video where he suggested the “abolition of private property.”
“My platform is that every single person should have housing, and I think faced with these two options, the system has hundreds of thousands of people unhoused, right? For what?” Mamdani questioned in the resurfaced video, which has circulated widely among conservative social media users.
“If there was any system that could guarantee each person housing, whether you call it the abolition of private property or you call it, you know, just a statewide housing guarantee, it is preferable to what is going on right now,” he added.
“People try and play like gotcha games about these kinds of things, and it’s like, look, I care more about whether somebody has a home,” he stated.
This clip has not gone unnoticed, drawing widespread criticism from conservative figures, including GOP Rep. Nicole Malliotakis. In her comments to Fox News Digital, she remarked, “He claims to be a socialist, whether it’s wanting to abolish private property or wanting to seize the means of production, these are communist ideas right out of the playbook of Karl Marx.”

Amusingly enough, left-leaning outlet Politifact has deemed it ‘FALSE’ to label Mamdani a communist.

At this juncture, one must wonder what further evidence would suffice to confirm his ideological stance as a communist.
