Warning Issued by Chicago Police Following Downtown Car Break-Ins

Residents in downtown Chicago have been put on alert after a series of early morning crimes occurred in parking garages throughout the Loop and South Loop areas. Chicago Police have reported at least seven incidents that took place between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. In each case, the perpetrators smashed the windows of unoccupied vehicles parked in public or residential garages.

One of the incidents involved a robbery at gunpoint, while property was stolen from another vehicle. The suspects were spotted driving a gray Lexus or Mercedes-Benz sedan without license plates, as per the CPD’s community alert.

Locations and Timings of the Incidents

  • 800 block of S. Wabash Ave (multiple incidents) around 6:05 a.m.
  • 700 block of S. Wabash Ave at 6:05 a.m.
  • 600 block of S. State St at 6:05 a.m.
  • 400 block of S. Clark St between 6:00–7:00 a.m.
  • 300 block of E. Cullerton St between 6:00–9:00 a.m.

The suspects are described as two Black males. The first individual is between 5’6″ and 6’0″, weighing 140–180 pounds, and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black jeans, and a black ski mask. The second suspect is between 5’8″ and 6’0″, 140–160 pounds, dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and a black ski mask.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant, avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles, and park in well-lit areas to deter criminal activity. Anyone with information is urged to contact Area Three detectives at 312-744-8263 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com using reference #P25-3-034.
