Indian moviegoers are currently buzzing about the latest Gen Z romantic comedy to hit the Bollywood scene – “Saiyaara.” This film has not only lit up the box office in India but has also garnered attention beyond borders.

In a recent episode of “Daily Variety,” Naman Ramachandran from Variety dives deep into the backstory of “Saiyaara” and discusses why this rom-com has become a massive hit in Bollywood after years. The movie, which translates to “Wandering Star” in English, has struck a chord with audiences, thanks to a unique marketing strategy employed by distributor Yash Raj Films.

Rather than bombarding audiences with promotional appearances and social media blitzes, the marketing team behind “Saiyaara” opted for a less-is-more approach. They let the content speak for itself by releasing captivating trailers and songs while keeping the lead actors, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, relatively low-key. This strategy created a sense of mystery and anticipation among viewers, driving up curiosity and interest in the film.

As a result of this clever marketing tactic, “Saiyaara” has contributed to a 14% year-over-year increase in box office revenue in India, marking a significant success for the Bollywood industry.

In addition to the success of “Saiyaara,” the second weekend of the film “Superman” also showed promising results at the box office. However, there are lingering questions about whether the film can sustain momentum and pave the way for future installments in the franchise. Warner Bros. and DC are already looking ahead to next year with plans to release “Supergirl” and “Clayface” to build on the success of “Superman.”

Meanwhile, the entertainment industry was rocked by the recent news of CBS’ decision to cancel “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” after the 2025-26 season. Senior TV editor Brian Steinberg delves into the repercussions of this decision, highlighting the challenges faced by broadcast network TV in today’s digital age. The cancellation of Colbert’s show, known for its anti-Trump humor, raises questions about the changing landscape of late-night television and the struggle to remain relevant in an evolving media landscape.

Overall, the entertainment industry is experiencing a significant shift, with both Bollywood and Hollywood navigating new trends and challenges. As audiences continue to embrace diverse content offerings, the success of films like “Saiyaara” and the impact of decisions like CBS’ cancellation of “The Late Show” will shape the future of entertainment for years to come.
