A 23-year-old man, Kenneth Williams, has been charged by prosecutors for shooting an 8-year-old girl during a road rage incident on the Near South Side of Chicago last month. The incident occurred on June 24 on the 3000 block of South State Street when the girl was in a car with her family and got into a verbal altercation with the occupants of a white SUV.
The confrontation escalated when a man in the SUV threatened to shoot the family’s car, and unfortunately, he followed through on his threat, injuring the child. The Chicago Fire Department medics treated the girl at the scene before transporting her to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was initially listed in fair condition.
Williams was apprehended on Monday at the Cook County Jail, where he was already being held on unrelated charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm. These charges stemmed from a separate incident on July 12 in Streeterville. He is now facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery by discharging a firearm in connection with the shooting of the girl.
