Political commentator Ben Shapiro recently shared his thoughts on the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” by CBS. The announcement was made on July 17, 2025, citing financial issues as the reason for the show’s conclusion in May of next year.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel on July 22, 2025, Shapiro speculated on the possible reasons behind the cancellation of “The Late Show.” He suggested that the management might not have been fond of Colbert, the audience may not have been engaged with him, and the budget constraints could have played a significant role in the decision. Shapiro remarked, “Maybe the current management doesn’t like Stephen Colbert. The audience doesn’t like him all that much. Certainly the budget doesn’t like him very much.”

Shapiro also pointed out that Colbert was let go ten months before the show’s scheduled end, mentioning that his show was losing $40 million a year. He suggested that the new network head may not want a “propagandist for wild left-wing crap” on the network, leading to Colbert’s departure.

Comparing Colbert to Charlamagne tha God, Shapiro questioned whether Colbert could demand a higher salary of $15 million when his show was struggling. He predicted that Colbert might only earn $5 million in his next venture, including a potential move to MSNBC.

Stephen Colbert addressed the end of “The Late Show” during a taping of the show where he expressed gratitude to CBS and the audience for their support over the years. He acknowledged that the show was not being replaced and would be ending on a positive note. CBS confirmed that the cancellation was a financial decision due to declining ad revenue and layoffs at Paramount.

“The Late Show” had a successful ten-season run since its debut in 2015, with Colbert appearing on various popular shows throughout his career. Despite the show’s cancellation, Colbert’s legacy in the entertainment industry remains strong.

In conclusion, the end of “The Late Show” marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in Stephen Colbert’s career, but his impact on late-night television and comedy will be remembered for years to come.
