A tragic incident in Ticonderoga, New York has left a grandmother haunted by the possibility that she could have saved a young girl’s life. Rebecca Kulickowski recalls driving past a suspicious man near the location where Luciano Frattolin is accused of drowning his 9-year-old daughter, Melina. The grandmother is plagued by the thought that if she had stopped to intervene, the girl might still be alive today.

Kulickowski had been traveling through Ticonderoga when she noticed a Toyota Prius stopped in the road. She distinctly remembers seeing a “skinny, tall guy” running up a hill near a wooded area. The encounter left her feeling uneasy, with the man’s gaze lingering in her memory.

The following day, Kulickowski received an Amber Alert about Melina’s disappearance and immediately contacted the authorities. The alert had been triggered by Frattolin’s false claim that his daughter had been kidnapped. Tragically, Melina’s body was later discovered in Eagle Lake, pinned under a log, not far from where Kulickowski had seen the suspicious man.

Frattolin, who had custody of his daughter at the time, was charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse. It is alleged that he strangled Melina to death shortly after speaking to her mother and before reporting her missing. Despite pleading not guilty, Frattolin remains in custody awaiting further court proceedings.

The heartbreaking incident has shaken the community and serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity. Kulickowski’s experience highlights the impact that a split-second decision can have on the lives of others, prompting reflection on what could have been done differently. As the case unfolds, the hope is that justice will be served for young Melina and that steps will be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
