Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian cricketer and current head coach of Team India, faced a similar situation to Rishabh Pant during a Test match against New Zealand in 2016. Making a comeback after over two years, Gambhir suffered a shoulder injury during the match in Indore.

Despite the injury, Gambhir showed resilience and determination by returning to bat after walking off the field. He scored a quick 50 runs off just 56 balls before India declared their second innings. The team set New Zealand a challenging target of 475 runs, which the visitors failed to chase, losing the match by 321 runs.

Unfortunately, Gambhir’s international career did not last much longer after the New Zealand Test. He played just one more Test in the series against England before being left out of the team. This marked the end of his 13-year international career, during which he scored over 10,000 runs in 242 games with 20 centuries.

Gambhir was a crucial player in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs. He was also ranked as the No. 1 Test batter in the world at the end of the 2000s. Despite his early retirement from international cricket, Gambhir’s contributions to Indian cricket will always be remembered.

As the current head coach of Team India, Gambhir brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. His passion for the game and his understanding of the nuances of cricket make him a valuable asset in shaping the future of Indian cricket.

In conclusion, Gambhir’s retirement hurt during the New Zealand Test was a poignant moment in his career, but it also showcased his determination and fighting spirit. His legacy as a cricketer and now as a coach continues to inspire young players and fans alike.
