The 2025 Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards were a night to remember, with PBS SoCal (KOCE/KCET) leading the pack with eight total awards. However, it was Telemundo’s KVEA-TV that stole the spotlight by taking home all three station awards for best newscasts in different time slots.
Hosted by Spectrum News 1’s Kelvin Washington, the awards ceremony took place at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. The highlight of the evening was Jim Hill receiving the prestigious 2025 Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award for his remarkable five-decade-long career in broadcasting and 45 years as a sportscaster at KCBS/KCAL. The award was presented by former LA Laker star James Worthy.
Bob Bain and Bob Bain Productions were responsible for producing this year’s event, which featured various categories ranging from Live and Breaking News Coverage to Sports and the Environment. KVEA and KMEX both shined with seven Emmys each, showcasing the strength of L.A.’s top two Spanish-language stations. Following closely behind were KABC-TV and KTLA-TV with three awards each, while Spectrum News 1 and Spectrum SportsNet LA secured two awards each.
