Intel to Spin Off Network and Edge Group

Intel continues to streamline its business. The company plans to spin off its Network and Edge group, which is responsible for making chips for the telecom industry, as originally reported by CRN. Intel will be an anchor investor in the stand-alone business and will seek outside capital.

In a move to further focus its operations, Intel has announced its intentions to spin off its Network and Edge group. This division, which produces chips for the telecom industry, generated $5.8 billion in revenue in 2024. This decision comes after rumors circulated in May about Intel seeking a buyer for this business unit.

This strategic shift mirrors Intel’s recent move to spin off RealSense, its stereoscopic imaging technology business. Under former CEO Pat Gelsinger’s leadership, RealSense became an independent entity with $50 million in venture funding. Intel’s decision to spin off both RealSense and now the Network and Edge group signifies a deliberate effort to streamline its operations and focus on core business areas.

As Intel continues to restructure its business, the company’s decision to spin off the Network and Edge group highlights its commitment to adapting to evolving market trends and maximizing efficiency. JS has reached out to Intel for further details on the spinout process and timeline.
