The Enigmatic Epstein Video: Discrepancies Unveiled

A recent inquiry into the prison video of Jeffrey Epstein, disclosed by the Department of Justice, has unearthed a series of troubling irregularities.

CBS News’ investigative team has reported that forensic analysis of the 10-hour and 52-minute footage presents several significant inconsistencies.

One noteworthy anomaly that contradicts the DOJ’s assertions is the presence of a cursor visible at 11:24 p.m. This detail raises eyebrows, as the DOJ had previously characterized the footage as “raw,” yet experts in video forensics argue that the cursor suggests the footage was captured as a screen recording rather than being directly exported from a DVR system.

This indicates the video was recorded with a camera or was a screen recording.

Furthermore, CBS noted another irregularity where, around 10:40 p.m., an individual clad in what appears to be an orange shirt can be seen moving toward Epstein’s cell. While the DOJ previously claimed this figure was a corrections officer, forensic analysis suggests that this individual is more likely an inmate, as prisoners in the special housing unit at the Metropolitan Correctional Center are required to wear orange jumpsuits.

In the aftermath of Jeffrey Epstein’s death at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in August 2019, then-Attorney General William Barr stated that his “personal review” of the surveillance footage indicated that no one entered the area where Epstein was housed, leading him to concur with the medical examiner’s conclusion that Epstein had died by suicide.

This claim has been echoed by other high-ranking federal officials, including FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, who asserted on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” in May, “There’s video clear as day — he’s the only person in there and the only person coming out.” Just prior to 10:40 p.m., the report notes an orange shape ascending the stairs towards Epstein’s tier. It states, “Through review and analysis of the SHU video footage, witness statements, and BOP records, the OIG determined that at approximately 10:40 p.m. a CO [corrections officer], believed to be Noel, carried linen or inmate clothing up to the L Tier, which was the last time any CO approached the only entrance to the SHU tier in which Epstein was housed.”

However, video forensic experts who reviewed this footage at CBS News’ behest expressed skepticism regarding this interpretation, suggesting that the shape could indeed be a person in an orange prison jumpsuit ascending the stairs.

The Justice Department has stated that the FBI seized the prison’s digital video recorder system containing the raw footage five days after Epstein’s demise. When federal authorities released the jail video, they maintained that it was “raw footage,” yet the cursor’s presence and the on-screen menu cast doubt on that assertion. Experts informed CBS News that these elements indicate the video was likely a screen recording rather than a direct DVR export.

has reported that both the FBI and the DOJ inspector general allegedly possess a copy of the Epstein jail video, which does not include the missing minute of footage.
