Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Neighbor Sentenced to 20 Years for Brutal Murder
Arnel Smith, a 66-year-old man living across the street from Mayor Brandon Johnson, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the brutal killing of a woman with a baseball bat inside his home. Smith pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder and received his sentence from Judge Alfredo Maldonado. Despite the severity of his crime, Smith will be eligible for release in less than 10 years due to Illinois’ “good behavior” sentencing credit.
