Colden Kimber, a 28-year-old New York native, was waiting at a Muni stop in San Francisco with his girlfriend on July 26 when he witnessed a man, identified as Sean Collins, harassing the family.
Collins, in a fit of rage, began shouting threats at the mother and her children, prompting Kimber to step in and shield them from harm. Without warning, Collins stabbed Kimber in the neck with a six-inch blade, causing fatal injuries. The San Francisco State University student succumbed to his wounds after undergoing surgery at San Francisco General Hospital.
Kimber, known for his kind and protective nature, was deeply cherished by his loved ones. His mother, Lara Litchfield-Kimber, expressed her devastation over the senseless act of violence that claimed her son’s life. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support the family in their time of grief, raising over $91,000 in donations.
The perpetrator, Collins, was apprehended shortly after the incident and charged with murder. Surveillance footage captured the brutal attack, providing crucial evidence for the investigation. Kimber, who was studying kinesiology and working at a local bike shop, was described as a positive influence by his colleagues and friends.
