An Englishman’s vacation in Florida took a dark turn when he was arrested for attempted murder after allegedly trying to drown his daughter-in-law in a pool. Mark Raymond, a 62-year-old man from Beaconsfield, England, reportedly held his daughter-in-law’s head underwater at the luxurious Solterra Resort near Orlando, while his 9-year-old granddaughter tried to intervene.

The incident occurred following an argument between Raymond and his daughter-in-law about his grandchildren, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The victim stated that Raymond forcibly held her head under the water, making it difficult for her to breathe. The struggle escalated as the granddaughter bravely jumped into the pool to rescue her mother from Raymond’s grasp.

Fortunately, two bystanders called the authorities, prompting Raymond to release his daughter-in-law. He was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of battery and one count of second-degree murder. The shocking incident took place at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, known for its upscale accommodations and amenities.

The Solterra Resort features a large pool area with artificial rock formations, a water slide, and a lazy river, catering to guests seeking a luxurious vacation experience. With private villas available for rent at prices reaching up to $800 per night, the resort offers a serene oasis for visitors looking to relax and unwind.

The disturbing altercation serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of human behavior, even in idyllic vacation settings. Raymond’s actions have undoubtedly left a lasting impact on his family and the guests who witnessed the harrowing incident. As the legal proceedings unfold, the repercussions of this violent episode will continue to reverberate within the community and beyond.
