A man from Schaumburg has been accused of a serious stabbing incident outside a Walgreens located at a busy intersection in the Loop this week.
According to police, the 25-year-old victim was outside the store at 151 North State Street around 9:16 p.m. on Thursday when he engaged with a group of men, leading to an argument. During the altercation, someone from the group stabbed the victim in the back and then fled the scene, police reported.
Shortly after, a Chicago police bike patrol unit detained 36-year-old Alejandro Tellez in the 100 block of North LaSalle Street. He matched the description of the suspect, and witnesses at the scene identified him as the attacker, according to a CPD report. Officers subsequently arrested Tellez.
On Saturday, police stated that the victim was still in serious condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
During a court hearing on Saturday afternoon, Judge James Murphy III deemed Tellez a public safety threat and ordered his detention. Tellez faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.
Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
