Introducing Fox One: Fox Corp.’s New Streaming Service
The media landscape is constantly evolving with the introduction of new streaming services, and the latest addition is Fox One.
Scheduled to launch on August 21, Fox One will offer a wide range of content including Fox Corp.’s Sunday-afternoon NFL games, post-season MLB play, Fox News programs, and more. The subscription fee for the service is set at $19.99 per month, as announced by Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch during an investor call.
The timing of Fox One’s launch coincides with Disney’s upcoming release of a new direct-to-consumer service. Disney, known for its streaming properties such as ESPN, Hulu, and Disney+, is expected to reveal further details of a business alliance with the National Football League during its earnings announcement on Wednesday.
Despite the shift towards digital platforms, Murdoch emphasized that Fox remains committed to its traditional linear audience. However, Fox One aims to cater to a new demographic of consumers who prefer streaming services over cable or satellite subscriptions. The new service will offer all Fox programming, and existing linear Fox subscribers will have access to Fox One at no additional cost.
Murdoch stated, “We have long said that we aspire to engage with our viewers wherever suits them best. The traditional cable bundle remains our favorite distribution channel, as we believe it continues to provide exceptional value to consumers.” Fox One targets a different audience segment, providing a paid, targeted offering encompassing all Fox brands.
