Wildfires in western Colorado have burned approximately 61,000 acres, with the Lee and Elk fires near Meeker in Rio Blanco County being the largest. The Lee fire, ignited by lightning, has scorched 45,000 acres, while the Elk fire has burned 14,250 acres. Colorado Governor Jared Polis has mobilized the National Guard to assist in firefighting efforts near Meeker.

Due to the severe fire conditions, Gov. Polis has issued disaster declarations for both the Elk and Lee fires. The air quality in Moffat, Routt, Grand, Rio Blanco, and Jackson counties is currently at unhealthy levels, prompting residents to stay indoors when possible.

In addition to the Lee and Elk fires, the Stoner Mesa fire in San Juan National Forest and the Twelve fire in Moffat County are also causing concern. The evacuation zones for these fires have expanded, and residents are urged to stay informed about the evolving situation.
