Marques’Almeida Fall Collection Showcases Portuguese Elegance
After a successful one-off show in London last season, Marta Marques and Paolo Almeida returned to their home country of Portugal for their fall collection showcase. The designers were invited by the Portuguese tourism board to present their collection in the picturesque setting of a sun-drenched vineyard. While the runway footage may have shown no guests in attendance, the duo managed to turn their lookbook into a captivating advertising campaign for a Portuguese getaway.
On the makeshift runway in the vineyard, the Marques’Almeida collection exuded a sense of sophistication not typically associated with the brand. Almeida noted, “It’s not a traditionally elegant collection, but it is a little more grown-up. We were so young when we started!”
The collection showcased a new take on elegance, with nature serving as the backdrop for the presentation. Pragmatic footwear choices complemented the outdoor setting, while the designers successfully incorporated peplum details that felt fresh and modern. Evening wear pieces were juxtaposed with grungy acid-wash denim and relaxed silhouettes, including stylish pajama-like sets.
Despite the evolution of their aesthetic, the OG Marques’Almeida spirit remained intact in the fall collection. Almeida remarked, “We made some things we wouldn’t have done or thought about at first,” referencing the lineup’s embellished sheaths and flared skirts. The designers’ maturity was evident in the sophisticated yet playful designs that graced the runway.
As Marques’Almeida continues to innovate and push boundaries in the fashion industry, their fall collection serves as a testament to their growth and creativity. With funky drapes and ballooning blouses leading the way, it’s clear that age looks good on this dynamic design duo.
