On Wednesday evening, tragedy struck in Rogers Park as a 46-year-old man lost his life in a hit-and-run crash. The incident occurred at the intersection of West Estes Avenue and North Greenview Avenue, where the victim was struck and dragged by a vehicle. Despite initial reports of serious injuries, the man succumbed to head trauma, a fractured right leg, and additional injuries, leading to his untimely death at 8:10 p.m.

According to a Chicago Police Department traffic crash report, surveillance footage captured the horrific event. The victim was trapped underneath a dark gray 2018 Buick Encore SUV, which fled the scene heading eastbound on Estes. The driver callously chose not to stop after the collision, leaving the victim to suffer alone.

Witnesses recalled hearing someone scream the name “Denise” at the time of the crash, adding to the mystery surrounding the hit-and-run incident. Police are now urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the apprehension of the driver responsible. The vehicle, identified by its Illinois license plate CQ19696, remains at large, and anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact the CPD Major Accident Investigation Unit at 312-745-4521 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com using reference RD# JJ364919.

In cases of hit-and-run accidents, law enforcement faces the challenge of identifying the individual behind the wheel at the time of the incident. Merely knowing the vehicle’s owner or registered driver is not sufficient to press charges. Many hit-and-runs involve stolen cars or vehicles with falsified license plates, complicating the investigative process.

As the community mourns the loss of a fellow resident, the search for justice continues. The road to closure for the victim’s loved ones hinges on cooperation from the public and diligent police work. Let us come together to bring accountability to those who shirk their responsibility in moments of crisis.
