The Ocean Photographer of the Year competition showcases the stunning beauty and diversity of marine life through the lens of talented photographers from around the world. This year’s contest received over 15,000 submissions, highlighting everything from the tiniest creatures to majestic humpback whales.

Among the winning entries is a captivating image by Yury Ivanov, featuring two tiny amphipods displaying vibrant colors and intricate symmetry. Ivanov’s patience and precision in capturing this intimate underwater moment paid off, offering a glimpse into a world often overlooked.

Other remarkable photographs include penguins darting through the waters off Antarctica, a dwarf seahorse hiding among green algae, and a mesmerizing shot of a juvenile wunderpus octopus surrounded by small zooplankton. Each image tells a unique story and showcases the incredible beauty of our oceans.

From healthy coral reefs in Indonesia to a mating ritual between tawny nurse sharks in the Maldives, the winning photographs capture the fragile yet awe-inspiring marine ecosystems that need our protection.

One poignant image shows an entangled humpback whale off Ningaloo Reef in Australia, highlighting the impact of human activities on marine life. Another image depicts a morning ritual at Tam Tien beach in Vietnam, emphasizing the deep connection between the sea and coastal livelihoods.

The competition also features a freediver respectfully interacting with two humpback whales in French Polynesia and fishermen laboring amidst laver cultivation poles in China, showcasing the intricate balance between humans and marine environments.
