CELEBRATING OUR UNIQUE ALLIANCE:

As President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump wrap up their remarkable Second State Visit to the United Kingdom, the United States reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the special relationship with our closest ally—one that is deeply rooted in shared history, mutual values, and a collective vision for a prosperous future.

  • Notably, President Trump holds the distinction of being the only American president to have received two British State Visits.
  • The bond between the United States and the United Kingdom is unparalleled globally, and our friendship will endure through time.
  • President Trump remarked, “Throughout history, American and British troops have fought shoulder to shoulder for liberty and freedom. This is why it is crucial for the U.S. and the UK to unite in defending these essential rights and values that resonate across the English-speaking world.”

ADVANCING THE TECHNOLOGY PROSPERITY DEAL:

During this visit, President Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed the Technology Prosperity Deal (TPD), a groundbreaking science and technology agreement poised to elevate the U.S.–UK partnership in our technological era.

  • This Deal commits both nations to collaborate on the forefront of future technologies, including AI, quantum computing, and nuclear energy.

    • The TPD launches a flagship AI for Science research initiative, involving the U.S. Departments of Energy, Health, and the National Science Foundation, alongside their UK counterparts, focusing on advanced biotechnology research and precision medicine.

    • Moreover, it aligns the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the UK Office for Nuclear Regulation, and the UK Environment Agency to streamline licensing processes—targeting reactor design approvals within two years and site licensing within one year.

  • In a move to bolster supply chain security, the UK has pledged to match U.S. commitments aimed at achieving full independence from Russian nuclear fuel by the end of 2028.
  • With a combined anticipated $350 billion in new commercial outcomes between the U.S. and UK, the TPD promises to enhance economic growth, scientific research, and energy security for both nations.

    • The UK government has committed to purchasing over $80 billion from American tech and defense firms over the next five years, including notable agreements with Microsoft and Palantir.

    • Additionally, British firm GSK has announced a substantial $30 billion investment dedicated to AI research and development in America.

    • BP is set to invest over $5 billion in energy production, primarily in the Gulf of America.

  • The TPD is expected to generate thousands of new jobs, make energy more affordable, and ensure that both nations remain leaders in science and technology.

STRENGTHENING OUR DEFENSE PARTNERSHIP:

Prior to President Trump’s visit, the UK awarded a significant $540 million contract to Google Cloud to enhance the UK Ministry of Defence and foster innovation.

  • Additionally, the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and the UK Defence Innovation Organisation (UKDI) formalized a collaborative agreement aimed at advancing a next-generation strategic partnership focused on defense innovation, which will encourage efficiencies through the prototyping of critical emerging technologies from the commercial sector.
  • The United States and the United Kingdom will jointly pursue research and development initiatives designed to strengthen our respective defense industrial bases, ensuring a competitive edge in emerging technologies.
