In summary
- Nothing OS 4.0 coming soon
- Refreshed design, Extra Dark Mode, AI monitoring tool
- Nothing Ear (3) earphones announced
British tech company Nothing has given a sneak peek of Nothing OS 4.0, the upcoming smartphone UI based on Android 16, unveiling some exciting new features.
Nothing initially introduced NOS 4.0 during the launch of the Nothing Phone (3) in early July, targeting an “early autumn” release. Ahead of the official rollout, Nothing has shared a post outlining the enhancements coming to Nothing phones.
With a focus on a more seamless and user-friendly design, users can look forward to a cleaner Quick Settings menu, a more responsive lock screen and always-on display, and a range of redesigned lock screen clocks.
The new Extra Dark Mode takes Nothing’s signature dark aesthetic a step further. This enhanced level of contrast not only conserves more power and reduces eye strain but also adds a stylish touch.
Additionally, an AI Usage Dashboard will provide real-time insights into the AI processes running in the background. This unique feature sets Nothing apart from other smartphones like the Google Pixel 10 Pro.
Another notable addition is the Pop-up View feature, allowing users to multitask with two floating apps simultaneously. Simply swipe up from the bottom edge to minimize an app and pull down to expand it.
Nothing has also promised enhancements to the camera experience, with an upgraded Camera app and smarter Gallery. While specific details are yet to be revealed, users can expect new controls and creative presets.
According to Nothing, “NOS 4.0 will soon be available on Nothing smartphones.” Although specific timelines and compatible models are not specified, it’s likely to debut on the Nothing Phone (3) first.
Nothing has announced the launch of its Open Beta testing program soon, allowing select members of the Nothing community to experience this Android 16-based UI firsthand.

In parallel news, Nothing has introduced its latest earphones, featuring a Super Mic that ensures clear calls even in noisy environments.
The new design boasts an ergonomic shape and 100% anodized recycled aluminum on the case.
These earphones come equipped with 12mm dynamic drivers and offer up to 45dB of Adaptive Noise Cancellation. They also support Hi-Res LDAC audio at 24-bit and provide up to 10 hours of continuous playback.
Priced at ÂŁ119/$79, the Nothing Ear (3) earphones are now available for purchase on the Nothing website.
